This could have been a really good movie if the tone and feel had not been so damn uneven. Bouncing from comedy to gleefully sadistic violence and onwards to broad farce it seems that Besson does not know what kind of movie he's making. The cast is pretty solid and the script has a lot of potential but the film never takes off. It simmers and keeps you entertained but never enthralled, Shame...
I started to get to know the characters so well I was actually shocked when it ended. Pfeiffer and DeNiro made a lovely couple and the kids were realistically written. Loved that about it. Tommy Lee Jones was just... Tommy Lee Jones. Recommend it when you're sick of watching The Godfather and want to see something of a sequel.
Luc Besson has never given me any good reasons to believe in his work. This one was no exception. The first 45 minutes lead me to believe this film could have some substance, at least some comic relief. Well, that feeling disappeared as fast as I turned it off.
I enjoyed this mainly because i'm a sucker for the gangster thing, and even more of a sucker for Bob. It was super cheesy but that Goodfellas moment made me smile a lot. I guess the whole movie was a more comedic Goodfellas with kids and a couple of silly explosions. It was fun and I love seeing De Niro play one of his old characters again. Fuck it, 4/5.
