1-2. This movie's an odd beast; a bastion of repellently rural hyper masculinity dripping in homoeroticism and unselfconscious diversity. Granted, it's not intelligent rationally or emotionally. It only knows how to be, and how to 'go'. The characters aren't especially interesting either. My favorite scene is probably when the characters try stealing a big rig, only to be shot, run off the road, etc. Schadenfreude~!
How much do you bench bro? I almost felt some affection for this nostalgia trip, everyone is so young and baby-faced, the fashion is terrible, they play a new song every 30 seconds to satiate my ADD... Using CGI to show the inside mechanics didn't work in 'Hackers' and it doesn't work here. Bad but fun, the practical stunt work was pretty compelling. Walker's stunt double should have got double billing.
i know nothing about auto-racing, but if this film is to be believed, it basically boils down to pushing hard on the gas pedal and then pushing a little red button above the passenger seat at the last minute to zoom past your opponent. in other news, i don't really see why this is any more beloved than diesel's "xxx" movie, but it does have michelle rodriguez in it, and she's awesome.
First entry took the 1970's drag-race movie and gave it a high octane makeover for the age of 'nos'. Nothing new under the sun here in this story of an undercover cop infiltrating a gang of hijackers and questioning his loyalty to either the law or the gang. Film delivers on some high speed action here and there but who would have thought it would lead to a series of ever increasing box office blockbusters?
