You know the killer. You know the investigator will find him. You know the killer will not catch the victim. What you don't know is how & when things will proceed. So far this is pretty much the same what we've seen many times before. So, it all depends on storytelling, acting & camera. Nicolas Cage & Vanessa Hudgens for me are extremely unsymphatic & B-category actors and therefore I couldn't develop any compassion.
Dark and shaky cinematography and rapid editing with a severe lack of establishing shots make this film almost unwatchable. That, along with an unfocused narrative, make this by-the-numbers procedural a complete bore. But at least Cage's performance and the almost-accurate (and obvious) production values help. For someone who lives in Alaska, Frozen Ground is a misfire that's cold as a body at the morgue.
