Ratings & Reviews

  1. Frederica Bepler's rating of the film The Furies

I can't say that I loved it, but watching Barbara Stanwyck in literally any movie is always worth your time!

  2. FISCHER's rating of the film The Furies

  3. Aardsy's rating of the film The Furies

They paid the cast each time they said "The Furies."

  4. Ethan's rating of the film The Furies

A very acidic western that features some good performances from the always great Barbara Stanwyck and Walter Huston.

  5. Diderot's rating of the film The Furies

Features one of Stanwyck's best roles and a great performance by Judith Anderson (particularly in the scene where TC asks her for money). Wendell Corey is poorly cast as a macho.

  6. SpacePirate's rating of the film The Furies

A very unique western. Glad to have it in my collection. Always like showing it to people who say they don't like westerns, because this one has its own feel to it. 4.5 stars

  7. Daniel S.'s rating of the film The Furies

It's not a masterpiece but, in a way, far more interesting because it's very complex. If you have here unforgettable moments like every scenes with members of the Herrera family or the scissors scene, the rest is also worth multiple viewings. A movie intended to students attending Film Studies. Recommended.

  8. msmichel's rating of the film The Furies

Walter Brennan's swan song. Mann's fine western is adapted by screenwriter Charles Schnee from the novel by Niven Busch with an operatic almost Shakespearian vision in this tale of a fiery cattle baron and his spinster daughter who almost matches his veracity. When they are put at odds the machinations of spite and survival are put into play. Stanwyck is well cast but performance wise Brennan is just incredible.

  9. Jaspar Lamar Crabb's rating of the film The Furies

  10. axsaxs's rating of the film The Furies

What a strange, but entertaining, western-noir hybrid. I haven't seen anything like it. Great performances from both Stanwyck and Huston, with some really weird Freudian incest vibes thrown into the mix.

  11. Franklinton Underground Cinema's rating of the film The Furies

  12. Nancarrow's rating of the film The Furies

Quite a sturdy transition piece from Mann.

  13. Dave's rating of the film The Furies

Criterion once again does film fans a huge service by making this one widely available. This one was overlooked in favor of Mann's more famous westerns with Stewart and Cooper, but it's just as good as anything he did in those other fine films. Walter Huston is great here, as is Stanwyck and the lush photography from Victor Milner is amazing. Great western.

  14. Drew.'s rating of the film The Furies

One of my favorite Westerns of all time. An absolute masterpiece.

  15. Alexandra Travis's rating of the film The Furies

One half western with the other half film noir; it's first western to be added to the Criterion Collection. A classic by all means and the last film for Walter Huston.

  16. Roscoe's rating of the film The Furies

Great entertaining mad fun. Grand performances from the great Walter Huston and Barbara Stanwyck and Judith Anderson. A fast-moving treat, nary a dull moment.

  17. craig Boone's rating of the film The Furies

beautiful to watch, wanted to love it, only liked it.. odd feeling ending felt like the film makers simply ran out of time or money.
