8.5/10 (30. 09. 2016). young and beautiful Dominique Sanda, favorite actor by Visconti - Helmut Berger and many more in jewish young love story and child memories in the start of WWII.

  6. Julius GL's rating of the film The Garden of the Finzi-Continis

Une manière élégante de traiter la montée du fascisme en Italie. Mise en scène raffinée, cadrage précis, joli rythmique.

  7. cyrikelly's rating of the film The Garden of the Finzi-Continis

Film remarquable! Des actrices, acteurs font parti de nous, inséparables, émotion et indignation. La photo est merveilleuse, un cadre exceptionnel. La barbarie transforme l'être humain. Plus jamais ça!

  8. Caillouquiroule's rating of the film The Garden of the Finzi-Continis

  9. Axel's rating of the film The Garden of the Finzi-Continis

  10. Julie Maje.'s rating of the film The Garden of the Finzi-Continis

The animated sparkle of the zooms complements the poignantly powerful stillness of other moments. De Sica's camera creates an intimacy which matches the intuitive intensity and seriousness of the cast. Giorgio is one of the most touching characters I have ever encountered. There is a heartbreakingly beautiful truth to his feelings. Helmut Berger is simply magnificent (as always).

  11. Emil's rating of the film The Garden of the Finzi-Continis

Simple yet beautifully told tale of love, family, home and war and how it affected the rich and poor alike.

  12. tintinmugshot's rating of the film The Garden of the Finzi-Continis

Its one of those films you will never forget.

  13. Storm KMB Moon's rating of the film The Garden of the Finzi-Continis

A dream-like film that draws you in and keeps you watching till the final frame. Stately, calm and yet with so much emotion bubbling under the surface. An affecting film that gives a real sense of what growing facism was like for those most affected. Stays with you after the credits have rolled.

  14. raggiodisole's rating of the film The Garden of the Finzi-Continis

The poetry of De Sica's films is a great pleasure for me, the storytelling is effortless as we witness the damage wreaked by Nazism. Note the subtlety of difference with Fascism

  15. simon's rating of the film The Garden of the Finzi-Continis

Good story sad.. nicely captured the period and feel of the time

  16. James's rating of the film The Garden of the Finzi-Continis

Anyone know why the voices are dubbed? I found it distracting. Beautiful film.

  17. GreenROCK's rating of the film The Garden of the Finzi-Continis

The survival of innocence in the time of destruction. The setting is Mussolini's Italy just before second world war, and jewish community tries to survive prejudice, racisim and discrimination. Despite the sharpness of the content, everything is soft-touched and subtle. I definitely enjoyed the subtlety of colours and cinematograghy, but not the soft touch of the content.

  18. Inderjit Sanghera's rating of the film The Garden of the Finzi-Continis

An atmospheric exploration of love and heartbreak to the backdrop of fascist Italy. De Sica does not subvert the love story of the protagonist against the wider political ramifications of the holocaust, instead the love story adds to the tragedy as we get develop emotional connections with characters who we know will end up perishing in gas chambers. The use of sunlight and dreamlike cinematography is magnificent.

  19. stair_well's rating of the film The Garden of the Finzi-Continis

A complete film. Character led and eye catching.

This is a beauty. Very sad too..

  22. dmol's rating of the film The Garden of the Finzi-Continis

3.5 stars for its chilling subject-matter, dreamlike cinematography and the beautiful metaphor of one's choosing to hide in their own personal, idyllic garden in order to avoid the true brutality of the world.

  23. Ayesha Casely-Hayford's rating of the film The Garden of the Finzi-Continis

"In life, in order to really understand the world you must die at least once. So it’s better to die young when there’s still time left to recover and live again.” Sensitive and haunting - musically and cinematically.

  24. Francesco Tonelli's rating of the film The Garden of the Finzi-Continis

Read the book. Avoid this disaster.
