Ratings & Reviews

  1. FISCHER's rating of the film The Getaway

  2. Steve G.'s rating of the film The Getaway

Slim Pickens doesn't live up to his name here.

  3. Karbon's rating of the film The Getaway

spoiler? not sure. - you don't like the way things are, I don't like the way things are. - What are we gonna do about it?

  4. CinemaDead's rating of the film The Getaway

Good Action thriller, Steve McQueen is great as Doc.

  5. Ethan's rating of the film The Getaway

Even when Peckinpah didn't really care for the material, if you gave him the ingredients of what could be considered a Peckinpah film, he could still give you a great action film with a lot of badasses.

  6. Dalibor's rating of the film The Getaway

All in on McQueen's charisma didn't pay off. Not sure if we even saw any, for that matter. Plot is a rather basic semi-intense crime story, taking you exactly were you think it will, offering nothing intriguing in particular, plus dragging aside an unnecessary side story which seems to be just Peckinpah's lasting obsession with bums fucking other people's spouses.

  7. cinegeek.de's rating of the film The Getaway

  8. Jeremiah Johnson's rating of the film The Getaway

A roller-coaster ride. Music by Quincy Jones. He ignored the cardinal rule of music for film - "music should be felt not heard, in the background." I guess he tried to match Peckinpah's gritty violence.

  9. J.J. 'Jake' Gittes's rating of the film The Getaway

This is a perfectly made action thriller. A masterpice of his genre. However, without any intellectual aspiration or claim or message. So what. Still, as said before, a great movie: full of action, violence, blood, shooting, tension, thrill, suprise, love, comic element. Of course mainly Steve McQueen, partly Ali MacGraw got their share in it. But, would it be the same without Sam Peckinpah? No.

  10. CarlosEsquives's rating of the film The Getaway

  11. Tabikenezer von Higglesbloom's rating of the film The Getaway

  12. Lights in the Dusk's rating of the film The Getaway

Peckinpah injecting some of his trademark style (and trademark violence) into a routine genre assignment. The results aren't as powerful or as memorable as many of the director's more personal projects, but nonetheless there are some amazing sequences, moments & supporting characters littered throughout, with the natural screen presence/chemistry between McQueen & McGraw giving the action a much needed human element.

  13. Vlad's rating of the film The Getaway

The subplot involving Al Lettieri, the opening sequence, the train sequence.

  14. Mike Archibald's rating of the film The Getaway

Peckinpah's signature lyrical slow-mo is here used for a car collision that amounts to little more than a fender bender. It's a truly embarrassing moment-if the technique is so important to him, why would he pimp it out like that, even on a piece of assignment work? The film is flaccid and barely competent-the director doesn't seem to have a clue how to build tension. MacGraw is one of the worst actresses I've seen.

  15. bcmlubbers@hotmail.com's rating of the film The Getaway

Steve McQueen and Ali McCraw in the best movie ever

  16. Daniel Montiel's rating of the film The Getaway

Just a vehicle to make McQueen look awesome and give him the hit that he needed. Peckinpah is mostly in automatic mode here, and MacGraw is absolutely terrible.

  17. CafeGradiva's rating of the film The Getaway

  18. Guillermo Padilla's rating of the film The Getaway

Film sobrevalorado, que si bien tiene algunas memorables y una gran influencia del cine explotation (una marca de esta época de Peckinpah ). Llega a absurdos (escena de la basura) que crean un malestar en la trama. Entretenida y violenta. Para verse en domingo.

  19. Smooj Betty Phace's rating of the film The Getaway

Al Lettieri being badass as fuck, and McQueen being cooler than what he normaly is. I can dig MacGraw in this role, and I can understand the appeal of a Bonnie and Clyde sort of story. I can also understand why they would want to remake this in the 90's. This is a simple, violent and straightforward film. I really enjoyed it for its simplicity and rawness.

  20. TheotherJones's rating of the film The Getaway

Without the ending of the book, what's the point?

  21. Tony Zhou's rating of the film The Getaway

McQueen and Lettieri knock it out of the park. Ali MacGraw, not so much. But so many sequences just work, whether by creative editing (the prison open) or by sheer directorial muscle (trash compactor and the final shootout).

  22. Eliecer Gaspar's rating of the film The Getaway

Six cowboys in a convertible are like three on a horse.

  23. Walter Gross's rating of the film The Getaway

This film RULES!!! Such a huge influence..on me and American "Cool"

  24. Silenzio's rating of the film The Getaway

More of a straightforward crime\action thriller than other peckinpah films. Nevertheless it has some superb sequences, a terrific performance from Al Lettieri (who should have had a fantastic career but was destroyed by alcoholism) and it never runs out of steam.
