THE GIFT is the most calm movie from director Sam Raimi. There's almost nothing spectacular in this movie. But THE GIFT is still a "Sam Raimi" movie. You can see his style of cinematography in this movie. Although its cinematography isn't as crazy as THE EVIL DEAD. I must say that the plot is a little bit predictable. But don't worry, it's still a pretty good whodunnit. Cate Blanchett is the reason it's still amazing
An engaging crime mystery with supernatural overtones that is more believable than a lot of those other mass-produced horror films out there. Cate Blanchett works perfect as a psychic medium and Katie Holmes do the most believable role in her career as "white trashy girl". Sadly the killer is a little obvious and should have been a bigger surprise than it managed to be.
I can't believe I missed this for 15 years. Some bits would come as a bit cliché now, but it still works. It's a surreal powerhouse cast. It's predictable towards the end, but managed to give off a few surprises. Cate Blanchett will break your heart as the psychic widow, trying to survive with her three boys. Giovanni Ribisi and Keanu Reeves' incredibly intense performances, seriously hands down.
Usual clichés, taps dripping blood, ghouls in the overflowing bath, police searching the swamp and of course the nice guy did it. Wife beatin', satan obsessed redneck in there for a touch of authenticity. But Cate, oh Cate, Blue Jasmine this ain't, but she manages to save the day, the film and the director in the end. It cost $10mln earned $12mln, so everyone's happy I guess.
