    [Reviewing the 1916 version] A dull variety of kenophobia: no single shot without a person in it, as if the fear of emptiness couldn't be driven off but via a childish demand of animate kin things in sight. Here objects are voiceless & for those of us w/ a soft spot for French Impressionism, the great tradition of Swedish outdoor cinema and other forms of "horror vacui" (Vaala's Gypsy Charmer) it's sad.
