Ratings & Reviews

  1. SpacePirate's rating of the film The Haunted Palace

One of Corman's best horrors, bar none. Yes it is slow at times as others have mentioned, but I feel this helps build the tension needed for the finale. Price has never been more in his element here, except maybe as Dr. Phibes. That role and his work in this film are some of his career defining performances in horror (see Laura and other 40s films for other acting side). Tense, moody, and generally creepy. 4.5 stars

  2. FISCHER's rating of the film The Haunted Palace

  4. Illusion Travels By Streetcar's rating of the film The Haunted Palace

"Just because Corman is incapable, which he is, of making a Bergman film, it's unfortunate that that didn't happen." http://illusionpodcast.blogspot.com/2015/12/episode-84-edgar-allan-poe-adaptations.html

  5. Log Lady's rating of the film The Haunted Palace

Loved the music and the moody darkness. Liked this more than The Tomb of Ligeia, because the creepiness was more there and there were also a couple of crazy elements thrown in there as well.

quite lame, everything... & why always the secret door/room is beside the fireplace!?

  9. - Caltiki -'s rating of the film The Haunted Palace

  10. Konrad Szlendak's rating of the film The Haunted Palace

This Corman's flick + Tomb Of Ligeia are definitely the best of all gothic horror, Edgar Allan Poe inspired series. The Haunted Palace doesn't miss on producing dark atmosphere and watching Vincent Price undergoing a possession is a nice treat. My favourite scene is meeting the mutants in the middle of village, kind of "zombie element" provided before Night Of The Living Dead was even shot. Nice piece of B-movie!

  11. Christopher R. Smith's rating of the film The Haunted Palace

Decent entry to Corman's "Poe series". Price is absolutely in his element, and the lush sets and production design create a wonderful, gloomy gothic atmosphere. But it does succumb to the major flaw of most of these types of movies: way too many scenes of people wandering down dark hallways - it's slow-paced, but Charles Beaumont's script offers some smart dialogue. One of Ronald Stein's best scores.
