An actor-celebrity unveils his mask during a train ride where, by force of circumstances, he has to deal with the anonymous mass that adores him. To discover the hidden humanity in his apparently iron-made-character as well as the dignity of the other apparently prosaic-passengers is the triumph of Ray's film. The dream scene is amazing and once again makes me think of the proximity between his and Bergman's cinema.
This is what happened when a master takes inspiration from anither master and create a master-work that shines on its own. Satyajit Ray's 'Nayak' is his attempt to create Bergman's 'Wild Strawberries' magic once again, and what an astounding result we have in our hands. A beautiful and poetic movie, reamarably brilliant acting by Uttam Kumar ... An outstanding movie. Highly Recommended!
