The Carters are an idyllic American family traveling through the American southwest. When the Carter’s car breaks down, they find themselves stranded. But what seemed like a car casually breaking down, might actually be a trap, perpetrated by local inhabitants out to set up a gruesome massacre.

Better cinematography, tighter editing and more tension and it is even more brutal, gory, tasteless and relentless than the original, but this remake takes on a "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" spin at the end that doesn't really suit the film. Still, it is one of the better remakes of classic horror films I have seen.
A step down from Aja's previous film, Haute Tension. Though this is a decent remake on basically about the survival of the fittest.
It is part of the derivative torture porn movies, and the characters can be a bit stupid at times but nothing that aggravates you. Nice cinematography in places and a jarring orchestral score.
I hate remakes but I had no problem with this film. It's a good horror film, the only annoying thing is that IMO the opening credits with all those pictures is the scariest part of the whole film, and it obviously wasn't intended to be that way. The sequel is a piece of crap by the way.
