Ratings & Reviews

  1. Edna Sweetlove's rating of the film The Hireling

Well-photographed and acted version of LP Hartley story. Unfortunately none of the characters are sympathethic and the story is told very slowly indeed. Sarah Miles was very cute, no wonder Robert Shaw had the hots for her.

  2. Rosina Rossini's rating of the film The Hireling

Great acting, but "the hireling" himself turns out to be an asshole, so you kind of can't feel as sorry for him as the director wants you to, especially since he fulfills the very lower class stereotype he looks down on, although I suppose that's the whole point! The female character is a victim of the male dominated society of both classes. Just so hard to watch this emotional car crash.

  3. Lynch/Fellini's rating of the film The Hireling

  4. Jaspar Lamar Crabb's rating of the film The Hireling

  5. ExperimentoFilm's rating of the film The Hireling

Steven Ledbetter joins Frank Machin as one of British cinema's most pitiable protagonists, m'lady.

  6. Cinema Omnivore's rating of the film The Hireling

how it won Palme d'Or bedevils me, a 6/10 my review: http://lasttimeisawdotcom.wordpress.com/2013/05/06/last-film-i-saw-the-hireling-1973-610/
