Satyajit Ray India, 1984

Cláudio Martins da Silva Alves's rating of the film The Home and the World

Portrays the intersection between the personal and the political. A complex film that refuses, until the last act, to comfort the audience by offering any sort of easy conclusion or overt moral stance. Its vision of nationalism as an essential tool of anti-colonialist revolution as well as a corrosive force is especially great. A love triangle as elegantly shot as it is performed. Perhaps a bit too long?
