Ratings & Reviews

  1. José Neves's rating of the film The Hoodlum

16mm, 3,5. Dry, direct, ungrateful before any idea of hope or romanticism. Allene Roberts deserved a much better cinematic career, as beautiful and fragile as Joan Bennett could be.

  2. ZYNAB's rating of the film The Hoodlum

WOW!! one of the nastiest poverty row noirs i've ever seen...lawrence tierney does it all in this. he scams his own family, gets an innocent girl pregnant to name a couple things...and ends up sniveling and bleeding in the dirt! there really was nobody like him in noir or gangster genre film, before him or after him. even cagney was sympathetic in his dirtiest roles. tierney is all sleaze and vitrol. and it's great!

  3. mjgildea's rating of the film The Hoodlum

Pretty weak and unmemorable but it earned points for being darker than you would've expected a movie from the early 50s to be. Dollar store film noir.
