The Image Revolution

Directed by Patrick Meaney
United States, 2013

20 years ago, a group of artists left Marvel Comics to create their own company, a company that continues to influence mainstream comics and culture to this day. Image Comics began as more than just a publisher — it was a response to years of creator mistreatment, and it changed comics forever.

  • HKFanatic's rating of the film The Image Revolution

"The Image Revolution" is not a great documentary, in fact it's closer to being a puff piece at times, but it does neatly ride the current wave of 90's nostalgia and serve as an eye-opening reminder that there was once a time when the lines outside of comic book stores rivaled the opening of a "Star Wars" movie, and creators like Rob Liefeld rubbed shoulders with Spike Lee and Dennis Miller as cultural figureheads.
