this is one of kim's more underrated, wildest movies. kim ki young's transition from black and white to color definitely opened up plenty more ways to illustrate his intensive study of the human mind and sexuality, seduction, etc. this is a curious movie that raises questions about the treatment of korean girlhood, misogyny, masculinity, and more. of course, no answers/criticism are provided.
There are certainly strokes of genius, as you would expect from kim ki young. Some extraordinary camerawork, the candy scene being one that will stick in my mind for a long time, but I do think the film lacked coherence in certain places, which somewhat marred the viewing experience.
