A humane look at a orphan boy trying to reconnect with his birth mother in Russia. The story's told without sentimentality, it is at times bleak, but always absorbing. The main performance by Nikolay Spiridonov is very restrained and naturalistic for a child actor, his character always seeming believeable. The rest of the cast are great too, mostly being the kids and staff at the orphanage where he lives. Beautiful.
