2.5 stars. The only sequence that really works is the "Uncle Tom's Cabin" ballet. Normally, I love Deborah Kerr but she is straight-jacketed here in the ladylike guise that Hollywood imposed on her. They tried to squeeze her into the Irene Dunne/Greer Garson mold. Yul Brynner is ridiculous. Rita Moreno brings something to the proceedings, however. I prefer Rodgers and Hart to Rodgers and Hammerstein.
Decent, but the music sucks. Never was a R&H fan really. Stick with Anna and the King of Siam which has great performances by Harrison and the incomparable Irene Dunne. I feel she brought a lot more to the role than Kerr, though I am a big fan of hers. Maybe this one just worked better on the stage...kudos to the great cinematography and usage of colors though
