  1. Stefan Gardovic's rating of the film The Last Christeros

Every frame is truly a painting but looking at paintings can get to be boring and in this film it really does... Although beautiful, the extremely long establishing shots (there is a 5 minute shot of the sun rising on five sleeping christeros directly followed by a just as long shot of the sun rising over the mountain) don't help set the mood or tone of the film, instead they make the film feel fragmented and long.

I could almost feel the psychological fatigue of these men from the screen..

  3. Absentia's rating of the film The Last Christeros

An atypical western. This is a wonderful work of genre(western) reformulation. Matias Meyer inspired by Reygadas (Japón and Luz Silenciosa) and makes an intimate and silent film with ecsatic sequences. Mexican new wave never ceases to amaze me!
