Our take

A box-office hit that also swept ten César awards, François Truffaut’s humanist classic stars Catherine Deneuve as a pillar of strength in times of trouble. Recreating the oppressive atmosphere of occupied Paris, The Last Metro finds solace—and political resistance—on and off the theater stage.
