  • fleur de chair's rating of the film The Last September

A whole bunch of great UK actors trying but failing to make the most out of a dead. dull screenplay with, it seems, no direction whatsoever. Gambon, Maggie Smith, and Fiona Shaw were the only ones who weren't floundering, and that's because they've got such terrific chops that they can look after themselves. Keeley Hawes, who sets my teeth on edge at the best of times, is at her most irritating.
