A painful and moving depiction of Nazi war crimes, shot on Aushwitz and with the nearby town's inhabitants as extras. This chillingly authentic view of the horror (only two years after the end of WWII) focuses on the female division of the camp and the infamous women Nazi guards. Jakubowska films with stark realism and in poetically expressive close-ups the plight of women but also their hope of liberation. Must-see.

  3. Daniel S.'s rating of the film The Last Stage

In my opinion, this film is worth Resnais's Night and Fog if you're interested in the cinematographical approach of the Holocaust. Highly recommended.

  4. Lynch/Fellini's rating of the film The Last Stage

Really disturbing in the best way possible!
