Paul Newman is amazing in this as the title character and the cast is an assorted mix of character actors that make this film a fun and enjoyable ride.

  2. FISCHER's rating of the film The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean

Oeuvre admirable qui frise la perfection de par sa richesse et sa densité... www.cinefiches.com

  3. Aardsy's rating of the film The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean

Nearly unwatchable. (That John Huston magic!)

  4. Blumes's rating of the film The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean

Full of magic with a handful of holes

  5. 849025's rating of the film The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean

Not sure how I feel about the treatment of that bear but that aside, is there a better Anti-Western?

  6. José Neves's rating of the film The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean

Cinematography by Richard Moore. "Desire" list. Another Paul Newman, two years after his 2nd film as director, the beautiful "Sometimes a Great Notion", that could also be in this list. But the fact is that in his forties the western characters become him very well and this one or Altman's "Buffalo Bill and the Indians" could be a right choice for this righteous man.

  7. Daniel S.'s rating of the film The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean

I'm sure that the scene with Bad Bob was an inspiration for Samuel Raimi's The Quick and the Dead. Even the huge hole in Bad Boy's chest is Raimiesque. Cinema always rises from its own ashes like the Phoenix. Recommended.

  8. Christopher R. Smith's rating of the film The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean

John Huston directed this irreverent western farce that's both a raucous send-up of Hollywood western conventions and an offbeat ode to an America past. The all-star cast is universally in top comic form, aided in no small part by a strong, sharp screenplay by John Milius. Another classic from Huston.
