    Un chef-d'oeuvre d'une puissance et d'une beauté remarquables ! www.cinefiches.com

  2. El Biffo's rating of the film The Lighthouse Keepers

So remarkable. This is a great example of why I love silent cinema! At least ones like this; it's going on my list "My Favorite Silent Films". Visually it feels like an avant-garde silent, except that it isn't-it has a linear plot, albeit a simple one. Made at the very end of the Silent Era, when the big studios had already all switched to sound, this gem by Gremillon stayed old-school, and took it to the next level.

  3. εξώτερο Διάστημα's rating of the film The Lighthouse Keepers

I'll probably try another of my arcane 'jokes' and call this film The MonaLyssa Smile. In the film a man becomes infected with the rabies and 'lyssa' (from lud or "violent") is the Greek root used in the name of the genus of rabies Lyssavirus. Ok, I know it's not a laughing matter.. Iniatially my aim was just as grim: call this Tetanic Waltz (after a Romanian comedy - Titanic Vals), but tetanus was not in the pack.
