Finally have the opportunity to watch the first adaptation of my all-time-fav childhood book, The Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Such an entertaining adaptation which starred the famous Shirley Temple. Although the ending is quite different from the book, it kinda fits the target audience on its era.
Quite wonderful Temple vehicle that now pales compared to the Cuaron remake in '95. Temple is quite entertaining here with a supporting cast that delivers especially Mary Nash as the wicked headmistress. The ending is quite moving though one wishes Nash had really been served up some comeuppance. Rich colour cinematography especially in a quite striking dream sequence.
