Based on the Henry James's novella The Aspern Papers. Under Martin Gabel's direction, the book becomes a Gothic Noir and Venice looks a lot like England. Interesting to remember that there was a time when people could kill for a dozen letters. The Lost Moment is not a masterpiece but a few scenes featuring Susan Hayward's split personality will stay in me. Highly recommended.
A slightly silly little time-killer. Moorehead is hidden under thick make-up, Cummings and Hayward do their best in this mystery thriller without any real inspiration. Several subplots are underdeveloped or simply forgotten (the Italian servant, the treacherous friend) - not a forgotten classic, just an old film with good camera work.
