Naive and overromanticized, lacks (the feel of) authenticity (perforations, for example, was Edison's idea and should be credited to him rather than Green). Anybody interested in cinema pioneers had better check Wim Wender's The Brothers Skladanowsky, 1995.
Very interesting story about a lesser known film pioneer, beautifully played by Donat. Cardiff is on top of his game again and Johnston is very good as well. Pretty good and unique use of flashbacks but a few things felt a bit off about the film. A few segments went on too long and the film overall was a little too long. Overall, still worth checking out. Would look great on Blu.
