  1. forever 219 por vida's rating of the film The Man in the Iron Mask

really good to watch at your parents house while they are sleeping. and you watch it with the fireplace, petting dogs and under blankets and during a really stable and un-painful time in your life, i guess to be honest: an ignorant (dumb) time...thats when you should watch this movie. its chill and not mind-numbing. (that mask is kinda scary though..) omg imagine being in that mask claustrophobic as fukk

  2. Aardsy's rating of the film The Man in the Iron Mask

Moves along at a nice pace.

  3. msmichel's rating of the film The Man in the Iron Mask

Rousing adaptation of the Dumas classic from director James Whale. Casting is mostly good though lead Louis Hayward struggles in the double role. Best in show is Joseph Schildkraut as the villainous Fouquet.

  4. captainfez's rating of the film The Man in the Iron Mask

Ostensibly about royal families, but really about an enormous dick getting his comeuppance.

  5. Mitchell Glidden's rating of the film The Man in the Iron Mask

Charming. Reminder that sociopathic aristocrats make for the best cinematic villains. Hot take: Non-horror Whale is better.

  6. David R Williams's rating of the film The Man in the Iron Mask

  7. Joe Pryweller's rating of the film The Man in the Iron Mask

That Edvard Grieg-like mask will haunt my dreams for days. A rollicking adaptation of Dumas' classic (although the 1923 version with Douglas Fairbanks is better), Heyward's performance is amazing as good/evil twins. Whale's film minimizes swordfights and Musketeer time in favor of romance and court intrigue, which fits Dumas. One nod to Hays Code Hollywood: The story's Jezebel is killed for no apparent reason.

  8. Loz Loory's rating of the film The Man in the Iron Mask

Amusing to see the mix of historical costume drama with Western chase scenes filmed in Southern CA's canyons. With Europe gone to war, it's even got precursors to the line from "Casablanca" about the problems of two little people not amounting to a hill of beans. Loved the cameo role of a Netherlands maid holding a tulip for identification. Amusing staging of wedding with the couple at opposite sides of the altar.

  9. photo_aurora's rating of the film The Man in the Iron Mask

Great classic! This is the kind of old Hollywood movie where the good stuff is great, and the bad is so much fun anyway, one can't help but to have a good time.

  10. Scienceofphantoms's rating of the film The Man in the Iron Mask

Those brooding, starkly lit mask scenes are worth it.
