Ratings & Reviews

  1. Dan Kenneth Gigernes's rating of the film The Mangler

Stephen King's fascination with machines turning into destructive forces of death that kills people is again explored in this absurd adaptation of a short story about a demonic laundry pressing machine that has a taste for blood. Robert Englund do his most cartoonish and over-the-top performance in his career looking more like a demon than the laundry machine. Tobe Hooper's worst film? Possibly.

  3. TheCentralRuhr's rating of the film The Mangler

The demons of capitalism conspire with the 1% to feed on the energy of their workers. This might be the strongest Hooper I've seen so far, full of gorgeous compositions, subtle fades, confident editing, and intriguing lighting. The Moloch machine from Metropolis now lives in every town across the US and every time one breaks down, another will take its place. The ending is particularly sad but honest in its cynicism.

  4. A.J. Hakari's rating of the film The Mangler

At least more crazy and active than other Hooper films, but it still further demonstrates his flash-in-the-pan stature in horror. It's easy to get sick of what this loud irritant is shoveling out really fast.

  5. Will C's rating of the film The Mangler

It's a Stephen King story about a possessed laundry machine that kills and folds people. You don't go into a movie like this expecting something complex like The Shining or The Green Mile. Still, for a ludicrously trashy yarn with shoddy acting and off-kilter pacing, Tobe Hooper manages to make it "work," thanks in part to a gloriously hammy performance from Robert Englund.
