La maman et la putain

Jean Eustache France, 1973

Adam Cook's rating of the film The Mother and the Whore

Eustache & Leaud resurrect all of the pathos of Antoine Doinel circa The 400 Blows in one of the greatest french films. Once again Leaud is a lost boy, perhaps in a country lost as well. One of those rare works during which you find your heart swelling exponentially as it continues. Perfect. Reminds me of top-form Allen and Sang-soo in a way. Also Les hautes solitudes and although some may resent this, Chasing Amy.
