An absolutely iconic musical that has some of my favourite ensemble numbers in musical history. It's a delight and Robert Preston is a tour-de-force, but its colossal runtime is absolutely unnecessary. The 60s saw many musicals reach a runtime of nearly 3 hours, but it's often necessary. Here, it just feels like there's a lot of padding.
Enjoyed Hermione Gingold and Buddy Hackett, but that's about it. I don't dislike this musical as much as Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, but have no plans on watching again or recommending. I do, however, think it would be more enjoyable to watch as an actual stage production, rather than a film.
