MY LITTLE FINGER TOLD ME ... Japanese traditions, as well as the underworld yakuza world are fascinating. Hard for expressionless Jared LETO, to stand up next to the Japanese characters. === MON PETIT DOIGT M'A DIT....
A pretty decent crime drama that suffers from a sorely underwritten protagonist. Despite Leto's intensity and commitment as an actor not even he can conjure up a believable and relatable character from what he has been given. The supporting cast fare better despite the stereotypical roles they inhabit. Production work is quite good but the score is horribly generic. An OK time waster.
It starts with a lot of promise but then doesn’t appear to go anywhere interesting. Jared Leto’s Silent stare gets old very quickly and the story is just not that engaging.
What was good was the use of both English and Japanese instead of the normal English with an accent nonsense.
With Tom Hardy once attached to this project and even with Jared Leto, The Outsider looked for a few moments like a promising opportunity for cinema greatness but unfortunately the final product is miles away from something close to greatness.
The story doesn't take much risk and prefers to keep things simple and slow paced, in the end all of that being easily forgettable.
Leto tried hard but only looked pale.
