A bizarre folk tale concerning an odd village custom where a young pastor with a fiance is forced to marry his predecessor's old widow. It is strangely funny and truly sad, with moments full of exuberance in the open air and sunshine and others plunged in wondrously gray shadows full of hidden depths. It was only his second film as director, but already through its subtly shifting tones one sees a master at work.
A somewhat strange plot line, which makes this piece of work all that more fascinating. Incredibly engaging and funny for such an early work. It keeps you entranced for the entirety of its fairly short running time. Enjoyed this one right before they removed it from netflix watch instantly.
