A film that go into gory detail about the last hours of Jesus Christ and it almost makes me wonder if Mel Gibson relish the chance to flog this holy icon. There is a lot of agony and despair and it is easy to understand that Jim Caviezel had to undergo medical treatment after the film. Sadly, the film also doesn't go very deep into the text so except for it's brutality and gruesomeness there is little emotion in it.
A viscously cruel and sadistic film which pays great attention to the suffering and little to the redemption. This passion play is reduced to bludegoend meat and one leaves it disgusted, not so much at the purported perpetrators but at the driving desire to depict such a pornography of grievous bodily harm without much illumination.
For historically accurate decription ,see The Life of Brian. Just as Titanic you already know the plot twist. Just a Titanic it is boring. Missing redheads and Canadian singers to make it to the level of Titanic. More seriously, it is a boring boring film with little substance. 2 stars because I think it is exactly what it is trying to achieve.
A very powerful film. I didn't find anything overly gory or shocking though. Films like Hostel and A Serbian Film do much worse. It certainly cannot be denied though that there are some anti-Semitic undertones in the film which may offend. The juxtaposing of the brutal but cultured Romans with the Jewish rabble who condemn Jesus is one of the many examples here. If you can see past this then the film is rewarding.
Dreadful. 2 hours of gratuitous torture and thats just for the viewer let alone the poor Z-list actors that have to pretend they believe in what they are doing. Depressing and totally pointless. Mel Gibson should never be allowed to make another film and no, I am not a christian, I just know a crap film when l See one...and l just have.
