  2. Steve73's rating of the film The Pearl

An erotic, surrealist short film made by an aristocrat involving a sexy pearl thief who dresses like Irma Vep! What's not to like!

  4. Bilouaustria's rating of the film The Pearl

Disturbing, fascinating surreal short. It has a dreamy quality mixed to eroticism only to be find again later in Maya Deren's work. Or maybe some kind of dark belgian Buñuel. The music added to it is a fantastic contribution to the intriguing atmosphere. Each cut seems to carry you deeper into Cocteau's nightmares. A pearl indeed !

  7. Wee Hunk's rating of the film The Pearl

1929 is also the year of 'Un Chien Andalou', not surprisingly, with which this movie shares similar themes. It's also expressionistic, amateurish, and sensual. The soundtrack provided by Mireille Capelle moves it firmly into the realm of the strange.

The whole atmosphere of the film creeps me out.

The goose that got away! 1929? Seminal. That is, pertaining to semen, relating to a seed, AND influencing the developments of future events.

  13. Landen Celano's rating of the film The Pearl

Discombobulated, even for something intentionally fragmented, but some of its imagery is light years ahead of its time.

  14. Cole Caudle's rating of the film The Pearl

Plays like the wet dream of a man obsessed with the image of Irma Vep. In other words, brilliant.

  15. Kenji's rating of the film The Pearl

Elegant, erotic, surreal, a hidden pearl of a film
