Occasionally too somber for its own good, but it's too frequently damn-good to dismiss. Strong, human performances across the board, and there are just some truly devastating scenes here. Hopper telling off his girlfriend in a lowlit diner setting echoed a similar, saddening scene from Whiplash, and that motel sequence is gutting, for lack of a (possibly) better term.
I thought the movie was really bad & clichéd as hell; Good Will Hunting, but with baseball. On top of that, it was way too laid back for its own good, and then it just ended! No story pay off, no emotional pay off, no nothing. 3 strikes and the movie's out!.
