35mm. What's related to father-son story is typically French, supposedly problematic, diminishing what really matters here, which is all that relates to Léaud's magnificent character and acting. They are moments of an ironic theatrical detachment, perfectly integrated in a persona without immediate psicologic reading, as if Bresson did porn, probablement urged by le Diable, fact visually achieved by the director.
Una película que se concentra en dos generaciones, padre e hijo, ambos viviendo en una temporalidad en donde sus discursos no funcionan. Ambos son presas de las dudas y la frustración. Sus fantasías de pronto se ven estancadas y en vía a la conformidad. Ahora...me llama la atención ese performance de Léaud tan Truffaut. Es un actor que parece también desencajar en medio de actores tan poco inspiradores.
Must-see if you are a fan of Jean-Pierre Leaud! There was a time, during the early 70's, when some directors could only get a film made if it was porno-ish, so there were a lot of strange films that obviously were obliged to have a lot of nudity, but the producer couldn't care less about anything else, so the director was able to do almost anything. Leaud plays a director who is a leftover from that time...
A wonderfull movie. I would read the film as one on moviemaking in general. Is a pornographer, is a direcor an artist? Bonello was lucky to have the face of Jean-Pierre Léaud for his protagonist, this face we know as the incarnation of cinematic art. Beautiful pictures frame this inquery of an artist as a man, father and pornographer. As we know after Cannes 2011: BONELLO is a great pornogapher himself.
A lot more interesting than advertised. Nice to see Leaud taking such ballsy film roles this late in his career. An interesting character portrait that goes unexpected places but doesn't say as much about pornography as Bonello's later HOUSE OF TOLERANCE does about prostitution.
