Ratings & Reviews

  1. arlinda's rating of the film The Portuguese Nun

So haunting! Apparently, "fado" (that stunning music played at the beginning) means fate. It's a meeting-with-destiny kind of film...and love and death and rebirth.

  2. afuchs's rating of the film The Portuguese Nun

Several seemingly simple video sequences made my skin feel one size too small.

  3. Bonnet Michel's rating of the film The Portuguese Nun

  4. Pomin Wu's rating of the film The Portuguese Nun

Interesting. I like the plot, the self-references to French film, and the dialogues about God.

  5. bolobot's rating of the film The Portuguese Nun

Why is everyone in this movie pretending to be a statue?

  6. Bilan's rating of the film The Portuguese Nun

A beautiful postcard from Lisboa is not enough to make this a good or interesting film. And if it was a new way of trying to develop a new style, for me it didn't work at all. Awful acting methods.

  7. Max Seqgar's rating of the film The Portuguese Nun

What saves this is the postcard-perfect photo of Lisbon, but the "actors" make it an unbearable sight of a movie.

  8. Sofia Marramá's rating of the film The Portuguese Nun

Amor a la vida. Amor al cine

  9. Dada Kubin's rating of the film The Portuguese Nun

A partly poetic, partly tedious film trying - I guess - to develop its own language of cinematic storytelling. It has a compelling story, some very nice scenes and beautiful shots from Lisbon (though I had higher expectations; there were just too many panoramic shots). But then there's a lot of pretentious dialogue and overall motionlessness. I'd say the director was trying too hard. And what's with the Sebastianism?

  12. Arijit Ghosh's rating of the film The Portuguese Nun

Aloof and detached view from the outside into the heart of love and compassion. The camera work is magnificent; captures the Fado soul of Lisbon.

  13. JHB's rating of the film The Portuguese Nun

"- Gostava que pudéssemos ficar aqui. Quietos. - A modernidade prescreveu a imobilidade, ou nos deitamos na minha cama ou acompanho-a de regresso ao seu hotel. - Sigamos a lição da modernidade, regressemos de automóvel."

  14. João Gou's rating of the film The Portuguese Nun

  15. raggiodisole's rating of the film The Portuguese Nun

Well, Lisbon is a pretty, colour-coordinated city, but arent' the people funny? Wasn't expecting much from this, but it had a warm soulful feel that was captivating. Curiously enjoyable

  16. Amapola's rating of the film The Portuguese Nun

  17. janh24's rating of the film The Portuguese Nun

A celebration of Lisbon; one to watch!

  18. Klazina's rating of the film The Portuguese Nun

if this movie tunes with you, it catches your soul, purifies it and gives it back to you in the most gentle manner.

  19. Peter's rating of the film The Portuguese Nun

    Contrived and self conscious delivery.

  20. Simona's rating of the film The Portuguese Nun

  21. paul oram's rating of the film The Portuguese Nun

She stops a suicide, saves a child, doesn't get laid, but discovers a 'purer' love through a highbrow discussion with a spaced out Nun in the ceramic tile capital of Europe, Lisbon. Mix all this with some safe bet Fado, slow pans and gazing into camera and its evidently deep. Geeeze! wasn't her hometown Paris romantic enough for her! Strip away the fluff and you are left with something rather vacuous and shallow.

  22. Jane de Deus's rating of the film The Portuguese Nun

Perfect Lisbon film. Aside from the occasional overly wide-eyed stares by the main actress, the pacing and muted tone were seamless. This film could have been an awkward disaster in the wrong hands, but in Eugène Green's hands it somehow works.

  23. Atzin Ortiz González's rating of the film The Portuguese Nun

A movie that walks between the poetic and the downright dull. The monotone style doesn't really quite help it either, as well as the repetitive shots of the same panoramic view of Lisbon.

  24. minelmio's rating of the film The Portuguese Nun

too uneven. and the acting as well.
