An underrated movie that doesn't try to reinvent the whole genre, doesn't loose itself in artsy sh*t and just assumes what it is: an horror movie! Very solid, indeed. Of course we are far from great classics as "The Exorcist" but it gives exactly what horror movies fans want: pleasure and fear!
Good movie and that delivers just what you think. Herein lies however the problem, while the movie is well made on all counts, there is not much elevating this above the myriad of "possession/exorcism-movies" out there. The first half of the movie was really solid with great mood and tone. The second half unfortunately lets the movie down a bit with pedestrian plotting and a predictable ending.
Unlike other reviews here, I felt that The Possession taking the exorcism storyline as we know it, but from the Jewish perspective, was definitely original than its very overdone Catholic counterpart. I enjoyed the starkness of the photography and score, the acting was top notch, and the little girl playing Emily had a full-on Linda Blair thing going the whole time. Very well done picture, highly recommend.
