  1. fane2808's rating of the film The Princess of Montpensier

The movie is not about the princess and the men in her life, not even about a very bloody part of French history, but about enlightment and how out of place it is no matter in which historical era it happens. It is a story of history happening as it does, without taking sides, without a happy or else ending, simple narration with nice costumes, landscapes and actors. And a tortured Lambert Wilson, as he generally is.

  2. Michael Zyx MH Claes's rating of the film The Princess of Montpensier

Rock and roll à la cour du roi, ou la Nouvelle Vague, caméra à l'épaule, en costumes de sous Louis XIV ! === Rock and roll in the king's court, or the French New Wave shoulder camera, in costume under Louis XIV !

  3. arlinda's rating of the film The Princess of Montpensier

What? An old fashioned costume drama that's actually good? It might as well have been based on a Stendhal story. It has all the right elements... Rich as it is in so many ways, it has a rather meek center. The princess doesn't quite convince, though her suitors are all ravishing, each with his own distinct style.

  4. spinninglovestory's rating of the film The Princess of Montpensier

I feel like this had a lot of potential but it just goes back and fourth, not a whole lot happens and then it ends.

  5. tnzk's rating of the film The Princess of Montpensier

The thing with Tavernier is that he's such a delightful director, but you come out of his films feeling nonplussed.

  6. Mark Garrett's rating of the film The Princess of Montpensier

With the epic scale Tavernier establishes, never before have I been more deeply convinced or saddened by royal troubles.

  7. Michael Harbour's rating of the film The Princess of Montpensier

A good looking period piece with a good underlying story but the film drags on and ultimately fails to do justice to the brisker more engaging movie it could have been.

  8. Olivia Reneé Saldívar's rating of the film The Princess of Montpensier

The brocades were the only exciting thing about this film.

  9. Garçon Manqué's rating of the film The Princess of Montpensier

i think it's a nice "costume drama" and a satisfying adaptation of th 17th century.cause Tavernier took those "beautiful landscapes" and made a charming love battle film from it in a Madame de la Fayette style. Mélanie Thierry was shining as Mariette also...

  10. guillaume.collin87@gmail.com's rating of the film The Princess of Montpensier

A film that tries to be everything without success. A cheap action film turns into a interesting moral tale before ending in a weak melo-drama...and it's too long ! There's no presence (from the actors) on screen and the music is excessive. Good ideas and beautiful landscapes are not enough to make a good film.
