Ratings & Reviews

  1. FISCHER's rating of the film The Rain People

  2. Dalibor's rating of the film The Rain People

For a movie so stoked on inventiveness it rarely has anything intriguing to say or picture. Directing is successfully transforming the "little town" setting and atmosphere, but struggling to compose a serious drama. Writing, on the other hand, whilst developing some unlikely affairs, is a half-done exploration of family/life planning.

  3. Mohammad Ebrahimian's rating of the film The Rain People

  4. Cinema Omnivore's rating of the film The Rain People

    7.7/10, my review:

  5. CarlosEsquives's rating of the film The Rain People

  6. Samuel Righi's rating of the film The Rain People

  7. José Neves's rating of the film The Rain People

"Desire" list. And here begins the beautiful series of films that made Coppola a landmark director of the movie brats generation. It would be fair that this series included one of the most extraordinary actors of the 70s and too much forgotten today, James Caan. Here young, hard, closed-faced, unfailing, disturbing by either the psychology of his character, either by the dimension of his facial features.

  8. Lucas Granero's rating of the film The Rain People

  9. Federico Di Folco's rating of the film The Rain People

  10. Pierluigi Puccini's rating of the film The Rain People

In the John Huston tradition of losers who take the road to find themsemelves, getting in contact with people with more and deeper needs to their pathetic and meaningless existence. Coppola's first mature plunge in filmmaking hits the right chords. He's both sensitive and crude, when needed for the sake of such a heartbreaking story.

  11. Derek Hill's rating of the film The Rain People

Not a great film, but plenty to love in it. It's bold and provokes us constantly in regards to Natalie's decisions, though it's crushed by the weight of melodrama in the end. I love melodrama, but Coppola botches it here because this film doesn't warrant such an ending. He can't think his way out, so he introduces a resolution that's pure sham. Worth seeing, though, especially because of its fine performances.

  12. scape's rating of the film The Rain People

„Do you have a ladies room?“ „Yes ma'am, it sais 'dolls'.“

  13. Serena Bramble's rating of the film The Rain People

It would be easy to simplify this as a female version of FIVE EASY PIECES, but it's so much more than that. The trio of actors are superb and this is further proof that although Francis Ford Coppola usually dealt with conflicted, confused male protagonists, he had great introspective and empathy for the females of his world. Not to be missed.

  14. Corinne's rating of the film The Rain People

The Rain People are people made of rain and when they cry they disappear altogether because they cry themselves away.

  15. Brad S.'s rating of the film The Rain People

This one's frustrating. Such a promising premise that unwinds wonderfully with top notch performances. All the makings of a great film, somewhat undone by an over-intrusive score and a lame ending.
