Our take

Director David Michôd follows his countrymen’s tradition of Mad Max with this thrilling brutal and dystopic neo-western. Instead of action bombast, he goes for sinister atmosphere, but the patina of desperation is the same hue. The cast—Guy Pearce, Robert Pattinson, and Scoot McNairy—is perfect.
