Ratings & Reviews

  1. Karl J. Kipling's rating of the film The Seagull

[Chekhov] is constantly, as it were, in ambush, to watch and waylay human hopes. He will not miss a single one of them, not one of them will escape its fate. Art, science, love, inspiration, ideals - choose out all the words with which humanity is wont, or has been in the past, to be consoled or to be amused - Chekhov has only to touch them and they instantly wither and die. - Lev Shestov.

  2. Joshuah's rating of the film The Seagull

Amazing film. Although I have not read the story, nor anything by Chekhov... anyone with an interest in 19th century Russian literature should see this film. As it nearly brings to life what many of those writers set out to capture in their writing.
