King hated that his book was ripped to shreads by Kubrick so he decided to get his faithful adapation made. Well, there was a reason why some things works on paper and not on screen and Kubrick was a visionary for understanding this. While an intriguing companion piece for those who haven't read the book it is pretty unremarkable on it's own and the scares are so toned down (due being on TV) they become a parody.
Just so you know, this is the movie Stephen King preferred. It is more closely attuned to the pulp horror book. Epic failure in so many ways. You really want to compare Steven Weber to Jack Nicholson? Even DeMornay is miscast. I do know actual human beings who preferred this one. Travesty. Hubris.
