Odar introduces ... several sets of initially disparate characters — mothers and cops and killers — and braids them together gracefully. But he uses the resulting rope not to pull his audience up out of the darkness, but to strangle us in it. -- Alan Pyke, Tiny Mix Tapes
An epic tale, as elegant, multi-layered, twisted, and complex as David Fincher's "Zodiac". As disturbing as "Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer" (David: Timo = Henry: Otis) sans gore and splatter. Watch this Teutonic gem in its original form, before the inevitable, crass, crappy Hollywood remake ruins it forever.
A creepy, multi-threaded, mystery thriller about a girl who goes missing on the exact same spot another was taken some twenty years before. It's a little hard to follow, and feels like a TV series trying to compress itself into a movie, perhaps at the expense of character development. The photography and sound design are very effective at working to create an eerie sense of mystery and foreboding. 3 stars
A gripping drama/thriller with solid performances and some really suspenseful scenes. Eventhough it bears more than a several shades of South Korean thriller Memories of Murder it clearly stands on it's own merit due to assured directing, great camera work and a haunting sound design/score. Extra credit goes to the actor playing Timo who did a fantastic job with a difficult character.
