Doesn't have the zippy pace of Preston Sturges' other movies, but Harold Lloyd is really interesting here as an emblem of his own career (a five minute clip of The Freshman opens the movie as his character's backstory). Interesting mix of silent and sound techniques, and even if it just ends up retreading Lloyd's hits. But his hits hit. Madcap slapstick antics! Climbing a skyscraper - now with a lion!
3 1/2. Lloyd is great, great cameos and a number of good gags, and a solid pace. Not great but not nearly as bad as its reputation makes it out to be. Love the drunk scene and of course, you get another fantastic closing line in a Preston Sturges film. Brilliant!
