Joe is a corporate engineer who invented a very lucrative process that is not yet patented. When his boss hesitates to pay him for it, Joe makes a new friend in wealthy Jimmy. However, an FBI agent warns Joe not to trust Jimmy. It’s hard to tell who’s conning who — and the game is just beginning.

This twisty, sleight-of-hand corporate thriller from David Mamet (famed for his blistering dialogue) was praised as some of the playwright-turned-filmmaker’s best work. The cast is all-around stellar, including an against-type Steve Martin as a mysterious wealthy stranger.
