Ratings & Reviews

  1. Richmond Hill's rating of the film The Stone Tape

An interesting concept generally well realised in the confines of studio-based production but distracted somewhat by underdeveloped extraneous plot threads: Brock’s family life, Chrawshaw’s industrial rivalry, etc. The passing years of derivative copy may have dimmed its original charge - by association if nothing else - but it remains a decent example of simple scare tactics with a cod scientific garnish.

  2. Stephen Campbell's rating of the film The Stone Tape

Finally back out on DVD another Nigel Kneale classic

  3. Robert Karol's rating of the film The Stone Tape

Despite the TV movie origins (which occasionally show in the dodgy-by-1972 standards visual effects), THE STONE TAPE is a masterful work of horror that slowly draws the viewer in, with a clever script and strong performances by the actors.

  4. MODERNGRUMBLE's rating of the film The Stone Tape

I'm not one to give a movie five stars simply becasue of a thematic or technical innovation so while the ideas present in this obscure bbc tv film are pretty cool and can be seen as major influences on just about every modern ghost story since it's not enough to elevate it above Kneale's somewhat tedious dialogue and characterization but the ending is pretty damn cool.
