Sadly this is one overlong, boring story about Arthur before he became king and gets to learn stuff by Merlin about how to rule so he gets transformed into various animals. Only a horny squirrel and a hungry wolf sprites up the humor as this has to be one of Disney's most disappointing animated movie. Two times I have slept through portions of it.
Definitely a lesser Disney effort with an overabundance of animal action. The fish episode is the weakest, while the squirrel scene is a good deal better and the Wizard's duel is the best of all and one of the most entertaining scenes in the Disney canon. Madame Mim is a hoot and the film has an undeniable charm, even if its a bit of a slog at 79 minutes.
Another middling seventies effort from the Mouse House that doesn't stand up to much scrutiny with modern eyes. Main problem is pacing and story development which considering the subject matter shouldn't have been too much of a challenge. Memorable for the great Merlin and Madam Mim wizard duel though.
Another all-time childhood favorite from Disney, I've always enjoyed watching the incredible adventures of Arthur & Merlin filled with magic, laughter, adventure, and courage. Bruns' score is magnificent to listen to (especially the songs) and the animation is fantastic to watch as well the story is nicely told. Archimedes and the wolf are really hilarious characters to watch, too.
