  2. L'immoralistee's rating of the film The Thief

  3. Log Lady's rating of the film The Thief

The lack of dialogue is an interesting choice, but it works. Milland's performance is great and the cinematography enhances the tension.

  4. Guy Budziak's rating of the film The Thief

Released in 1952, THE THIEF is a film unique for its time, a Cold War noir with absolutely no dialogue, none. Despite this it never lags. With handsome cinematography and a solid performance from Ray Milland, it is the very absence of dialogue that makes this film so effective, in the way that it underscores the lead character's anxiety and isolation. An overlooked, little-known work from film noir's classic period.
